To clarify: One of the things I love about Summoner Wars is that for all races there are basic strategies: Killing your own units for mana, positioning rules for fighting ranged units, etc. And that is a deeply unfortunate thing unless you play the game a lot. The big thing however is that you need to play against them in a way that is unique to playing against them. I've played Hex quite a decent amount, and I no longer have abnormal trouble beating them, because you eventually start to get their (incredibly subtle) weaknesses, and they have a sort of. Steel police are almost certainly balanced. I could make a hideously broken race for 1v1 hex, and I would still expect them to get curbstomped in 4 player just because of how much aggro they would draw :p Not remotely indicative of power level :p People like these multiplayer variants of wargames because in the silliness that ensues almost anyone can win, because everyone is perpetually kingmaking. As you yourself said, everyone else was somewhat ganging up on that player as well. Hex is not remotely optimized for 4 people, to say the very, VERY least. I think they're probably not as unbalanced as they first seem and they have a lot of fun mechanics added to the game. Maybe the advantage is more prevalent in two player games, as I remember barely making a single damage to the Steel HQ first time I played against it, or maybe these two games all-in-all don't say much at all, but I'm very optimistic about the team. His nets are good, probably the best HQ-expansion of all, but they really didn't put him at an greater advantage than my forest did for me. Of course I wasn't under any serious attack from the non-Steel players for large parts of the game because the others too figured it was a good idea to keep Steel in check, but I'm still amazed at how little Steel Police could actually retaliate while in my forest. Having reached to a preliminary consensus (preliminary because we'd only played it a few times) that Steel Police is unbalanced and me and Steel Police being the first to put out our bricks I naturally placed mine with the intention of giving him a hard time. However in a four player game the other day when one guy was playing Steel Police and I was playing Neojungle for the second time I started thinking otherwise. Steel Police has got a lot of flack for being unbalanced, and at first this was our impression too. We probably would've gone with duel instead of Steel Police, but we thought it was a stand alone and not compatible with the rest of the game. Me and my game circle love Neuroshima Hex, so we've purchased the Babel13 and Steel Police expansions as well.
